Salt and regeneration

The maker publishes no salt setting TapBuff can work from, so salt is left out of its total rather than guessed.

Softening water at 10 grains per gallon adds about 80 mg/L of sodium, by Nebraska Extension’s figure of about 8 mg/L a grain.

Worth knowing

The city-water version. SoftPro says it regenerates on demand, but its page, spec page and install guide give no salt setting, capacity at a salt dose, flow rate or maximum hardness, so its salt can't be worked out. It needs a drain and a 110V outlet, and has a pre-installed KDF guard the maker says needs no maintenance. Price recorded is the $2,523.55 list price; SoftPro showed $1,447 on Oct. 13, 2026.
