What EPA says about health

EPA has not set drinking water limits for these PFAS. EPA's UCMR 5 summary lists non-regulatory reference levels for only two: PFBA at 6,000 ppt and PFHxA at 3,000 ppt, both USGS screening levels.

Where it comes from

PFAS have been used since the 1940s in products like nonstick cookware, food packaging, waterproof clothing, stain-resistant furniture and firefighting foam. They last a long time in the environment and can reach drinking water sources.

What handles it

  • NSF/ANSI 53

Claim to look for: Total PFAS Reduction

Same claim, other certifiers’ wording: Perfluoroheptanoic Acid (PFHpA)

Of these 23, only PFHpA and PFDA are in the Total PFAS footnote on NSF listings.

WQA listing wording. Covers PFHpA only.
