The labs North Carolina certifies to test drinking water, from the state’s own list. A lab test is the only way to know what is in your own tap or well.

The short answer

North Carolina’s list has 112 labs certified to test drinking water: 73 in North Carolina and 39 in other states. It also names 124 water utilities’ in-house labs, left out here because they test only their own systems’ water.

Certification is test by test, so check that a lab is certified for what you want tested, and call first: it will say which bottles to use and how soon the sample has to arrive.
